Latest mobile phone scams in India

This is an awareness email for all the mobile phone users of india to be aware and careful of. There has been an extensive mobile phone scam concentrating mainly on smartphone sales cheating innocent customers in india. We request you to kindly stay away from all the people contacting you through websites and emails promising to provide you mobile phones for very cheap prices compared to market prices and convincing you to make payment in advance to ship the phone to you. Our research on such scams from various user experiences has helped us chart a pattern on how these scammers try to trap innocent people.

1. The scammers use websites like eBay or marketplace classifieds to list the smartphones at low price and provide contact numbers to contact them.

2. On calling they claim that they do mass scale purchase in whole sale for models like iPhone or samsung galaxy and hence they are able to offer the mobiles at discount price.

3. They try convincing you by telling you to check out their shop name or even come and directly collect ( they are simply lying to convince you) and request you to make payment only after shipping the product.

4. They email you a fake shipment invoice of the product and tell you that they have couriered the product and now since in normal scenario people tend to et convinced and make the payment.

5. Once the payment is made, they will completely disappear from phone lines or email. Some scammers would even courier you a dummy chinese piece to claim they have done shipment, but for sure they will never get back to you.

NOTE: the main scammers reported are selling high end smartphones like samsung galaxy S2 or iPhone 4G.

NOTE: the scammers will try their best to convince you with their claims of genuine business but remember the thumb rule NEVER MAKE PAYMET BEFORE YOU SEE OR RECEIVE THE PRODUCT. some scammers might also agree to make partial payment, still you will loose that money.

The users reported to us and other forums claim that they have placed complaints and also the scammed locations are from Mumbai, Delhi and south india. It’s your money – be wise and safe from such scammers.
